24 Hour Challenge - 03-04-2010
24 Hour Challenge
Everyday adventure became all day adventure when 26 young people from 2nd Coatbridge Scout Group took part in the group's first "24 hour challenge". The event was a camp to help the young people, who are all going to the Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland, to bond. The young people where given the opportunity to take part in 24 different challenges, a new challenge every hour! Challenges ranged from simple games, to sense challenges. Popular activities included watching Chief Scout Bear Grylls in action in his TV show and "Wii'ing on the wall" at 4am.
During the event, Scouts were given an outline of the exciting program that awaits them this summer. One scout said "I have been looking forward to the trip since we signed up, but seeing all the cool stuff we are going to do has made me ten times more excited". Another said "It is really exciting to see all the pictures and videos from Kandersteg and knowing that will be us soon."
Scout Leader Gary Patterson said "Making sure all the kids are happy with their groups and the activities is essential to making the trip a memory of a lifetime. The kids are getting to know their groups pretty well. The fact that this type of event is new to them all means that they are all learning new skills together, an essential part of Scouting"
Other highlights included trying to start fire using friction at 6am, Mini-Highland games at 7am. Crab football was interesting at 4am, blow football and a snooker tournament. A fun afternoon with our version of the TV programme, "The Scout Factor" where the kids performed campfire songs and sketches and what many of the scouts claimed to be their favourite challenge of the event, the chocolate event to close the evening!
